Description
About the Book Ladakh, declared a union territory of India on the 31 October 2019 by the Government of India, is one of the most famous places on earth for its breathtaking landscapes, the crystal clear skies, the highest mountain passes, thrilling adventure activities, Buddhist Monasteries and festivals. Earlier, it was a part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The new Union Territory of Ladakh includes the districts of Leh and Kargil as well as the districts – now in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir – of Gilgit, Gilgit Wazrat and Chillas. Nicholas Eakins, the author, has been exploring and capturing this Himalyan range, God’s wonder, through his camera for the last 32 years. He has touched on the scenic beauty of the landscapes besides the colourful lives of the wonderful people of Ladakh. He recapitulates his years of experience and understanding of the entire region through his lens in this book, an exclusive collection of pleasing, spectacular and stunning photographs. For sure, this photographic journey will interest tourists, academics, researchers and scholars of geopolitics alike. About the Author Nicholas Eakins is a professional freelance photographer specialising in the mountainous areas of south and south-east Asia. Having provided images for numerous publications and books over the years, he has also worked with the Royal Geographical Society. In recent years, Nicholas has photographed and written several books on Ladakh including guidebooks. Originally from England, Nicholas has been photographing the western Himalayas for more than 32 years. In his early days there, he would hear tales about a magical place called Ladakh (a mini-Tibet he was told) that lies to the north of the Great Himalaya Range. After the land routes to Ladakh were opened to foreigners, Nicholas spent the next twenty years photographing the area extensively. This beautiful collection of photographs is the result.
