Description
About the Book There are several books already available in the market about Fluid Mechanics. The uniqueness of this book lies in the unconventional way in which the topics have been arranged. The author believes that the presented sequence of topics is more logical as it introduces the concepts of fluid mechanics building upon the fundamental framework of particle mechanics and tensor algebra. This book is meant for readers who wish to focus on acquiring sound understanding of the governing equations of fluid motion and the essential physics ingrained therein. Contents 1 Tensors 2 Mechanics: A brief review of the fundamentals 3 Description of fluid motion 4 Fluid Kinematics 5 Governing equations of fluid motion 6 Interaction of a flow field with a solid surface 7 Hydrostatics 8 Some simple representative flows of an ideal fluid 9 Some simple representative flows of a viscous fluid 10 Governing equation of motion in non-inertial reference frames About The Author Dr. Sawan S. Sinha is a Professor in the Department of Applied Mechanics, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, INDIA. He received his B.Tech. degree in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kanpur (2001) and his Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University (Aerospace Engineering), College Station, Texas, USA (2009). Besides being a faculty member at IIT Delhi, his professional experience from the past includes working as an engineer for Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO) during 2002 – 2004 and later as a post-doctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University (2010-2012). Dr. Sinha has twelve years of teaching experience at IIT Delhi. Besides teaching courses on the fundamentals of fluid mechanics to undergraduate and postgraduate students, he frequently teaches courses on Engineering Mechanics, Turbulence and its Modeling and Computational Fluid Dynamics, as well. Based on students’ feedback, he has received Awards for Teaching Excellence at IIT Delhi (Turbulent Shear.
