Description

Vijay Digambar Garde graduated from the Government Engineering College, Jabalpur (MP) and joined the Heavy Electricals (India) Ltd. plant at Bhopal in 1959. He was selected for pursuing higher studies in the USSR. He did a Ph.D.in power systems engineering from the Moscow Power Institute in 1968 . He worked at the Corporate Office of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) in New Delhi. He also worked on the expert panels of the UNEP in New York and Nairobi.

In 1977 he sustained a spinal injury while touring in a staff car while being on deputation by Govt.of India to the Ministry of Electricity of the Govt. of Libya. Dr.Garde continued to work from a wheelchair after rehabilitation. He returned to BHEL and worked in New Delhi and at the Bhopal plant. He was General Manager at Bhopal plant from 1990-1994 and then Advisor till middle of 1995. After retirement he was in the IT industry and was associated with a number of research and academic institutions. Among other recognition awards he was awarded the Pandit Lajja Shankar Jha award and a Life Time Achievement Award by the Computer Society of India in Bhopal.
